48-MEHER BABA IS KALKI AVATAR, MATREYI AND SECOND CHRIST

ARTICLE-48

MEHER BABA IS KALKI AVATAR, MAITREYI AND SECOND CHRIST

Meher Baba said, “He was Zoroaster, Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Christ and Mohammad. He is the same Kalki Avatar of Hindus, Mattreyi of Buddhists and second coming of Christ which the mankind had been anticipating after the advent of Rama, Buddha and Christ.

Kalki Avatar

Anticipated attributes of Kalki Avatar as given in Puranas is as under:

The name Kalki is a metaphor for eternity or time. Its origins may lie in the Sanskrit word Kalka which means foulness or filth. Hence the name translates to the "destroyer of foulness", "destroyer of darkness", or "destroyer of ignorance”. Another etymology from Sanskrit is "white horse".

Word, “Avatar” means "descent" and refers to a descent of the divine into the material realm. The Garuda Purana lists ten avatars, with Kalki being the tenth. The Bhagavata Purana initially lists twenty-two avatars, but mentions an additional three for a total of twenty-five. He is presented as the twenty-second avatar on that list.

In Hinduism, Kalki (destroyer of filth) is the tenth and final incarnation of Vishnu in the current Mahayuga, foretold to appear at the end of Kali Yuga, the current epoch. His arrival is stipulated at a time when the earth is engulfed in crisis because of a tyrannical and powerful ruler. Kalki Bhagwan is said to be mounted on a strikingly beautiful white horse, and is most often picturised in the foreground of a dark sky. This symbolizes his coming at a time when darkness (evil) is the order of the day, and he is the saviour to rid the world of its sufferings.

The Kalki Avatar is the most eagerly awaited one, more so because it will signify the cleansing of the world from all its sorrows that have been accumulated for many millennia. He is to arrive at the end of Kalyug, the Dark Age, and will mark the beginning of the Sat Yug. According to calculations, there are still many years left for that to happen

It is also said that Kalki avatar will come, when all the three rivers Saraswati, Yamuna and Ganga return to heavens (dried).

The earliest reference to the Kalki Avatar is found in the India's great epic, the Mahabharata. Rishi Markandeya tells Yudhisthir, the senior most Pandava that Kalki will be born to Brahmin parents. He would excel in academics, sports and warfare, and thus become a very intelligent and powerful young man.

Meher Baba is identified as Kalki Avatar
There are two episodes which establish that Meher Baba is the Kalki Avatar.

Episode-1

Advent of Kalki Avatar.  The incident is reproduced as written in “Lord Meher” page 107 (new volume)

In the early morning of Sunday, 25 February 1894, the long-awaited moment arrived. Shireen was lying asleep in bed at the David Sassoon Hospital; Grandmother Golandoon was by her side. The midnight gong sounded twelve times in the distance. Nurses came frequently to look in on her; the expectant mother was relaxed in a deep sleep. Suddenly, Shireen awoke and told her mother that she had had a vivid dream.

"A dream?" Golandoon inquired. "What did you see? Tell me."

Shireen answered: "I saw seated in a chariot a person as glorious as the sun. His cool brilliance pervaded the atmosphere. A few people were pulling his chariot, while thousands of people led him in a procession. Tens of thousands of eyes were gazing at him, enraptured by his divine radiance. I, too, was in the procession and marveled at the luster of his face. His light fell on the whole procession and people's eyes were fixed on him; they could not look away."

Tears of joy came to Golandoon's eyes, and she said, "Daughter, a very auspicious son will be born to you. His name will be spread all over the world. He will walk among thousands of people one day and be carried in grand processions, as you dreamt. He will be given special reverence and honor." Her mother's interpretation delighted Shireen and she soon fell fast asleep again.

Episode-2

In Another incident, a lady during darshan program saw Maher Baba as Kalki Avatar. This episode also substantiates His coming as Kalki Avatar in modern time. The episode reproduced as written in Lord Meher (Lord Meher, Vol. 7 pp-2255)

A large public darshan was held in the evening at the Jessawala’s bungalow. Eruch had previously been connected with the Ramakrishna Ashram in Nagpur. The swami of the ashram was Bhaskareshwar Ananda and he attended the darshan. A saintly Hindu named Tukdoji Maharaj also attended. Tukdoji sang heartfelt bhajans before Baba, and was gratified at having His darshan.

Hundreds came for Baba's darshan that evening, among whom was the wife of a prominent judge. Her guru had advised her, "Go to Nagpur for the darshan of the Kalki Avatar!" (*) When she approached Baba, the woman cried out, "Kalanki Avatar! Kalanki Avatar!" Those who saw her were taken aback, wondering if she was a mastani – female mast. She threw herself at Baba's feet and exclaimed, "The object of my life is fulfilled today! I have had the darshan of the Kalanki Avatar!" The woman went away in tears, but they were tears of joy.

In this context one may refer the content of chapter 1, 2, 3 and 4 of book by titled “Om Meher“ ed. 5 May 2008 by Er. Hamir Singh ‘Meher’. In these chapters, author has established the place of birth of Kalki Avatar as (Poona), time as (1985) and His advent as Kalki and His Parents as Sheriyar Irani & Shirinbanu on basis of quotes from scriptures.

Buddha

Gautama Buddha is also known as Siddhartha Gautama. Buddha was an ascetic on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. Gautama was born into the Shakya clan, in Indian subcontinent in the 5th century BCE. His father was an elected chieftain. Gautama was born in Lumbini, now in modern-day Nepal, Kapilvastu. He obtained his enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, gave His first sermon in Sarnath, and died in Kushinagar.

His mother, Maya (Māyādevī), Suddhodana's wife, was a Koliyan princess. Siddhartha was brought up by his mother's younger sister, Maha Prajapati. When he reached the age of 16, his father reputedly arranged his marriage to a cousin of the same age named Yaśodharā (Pāli: Yasodharā). She gave birth to a son, named Rāhula. Siddhartha is said to have spent 29 years as a prince in Kapilavastu.

At the age of 29 Siddhartha encountered a diseased man, a decaying corpse, and an ascetic. These depressed him and He left His palace to meet his subjects.

Gautama discovered what Buddhists call the Middle Way—a path of moderation away from the extremes of self-indulgence and self-mortification, or the Noble Eightfold Path.

Gautama was famously seated under a Pipal tree—now known as the Bodhi tree—in Bodh GayaIndia, when He vowed never to arise until he had found the truth. After a reputed 49 days of meditation, at the age of 35, he is said to have attained Enlightenment. From that time, Gautama was known to his followers as the Buddha or "Awakened One" ("Buddha" is also sometimes translated as "The Enlightened One").

According to Buddhism, at the time of His awakening He realized complete insight into the cause of suffering, and the steps necessary to eliminate it. These discoveries became known as the "Four Noble Truths", which are at the heart of Buddhist teaching. Through mastery of these truths, a state of supreme liberation, or Nirvana, is believed to be possible for any being. The Buddha described Nirvāna as the perfect peace of a mind that's free from ignorance, greed, hatred and other afflictive states, or "defilements" (kilesas). Nirvana is also regarded as the "end of the world", in that no personal identity or boundaries of the mind remain. In such a state, a being is said to possess the Ten Characteristics, belonging to every Buddha.

After enlightenment, at  Dhamek Stupa in Sârnâth, India, Buddha gave His first teaching in which he taught the Four Noble Truths to his first five disciples which Buddhist call it Wheel of Dharma.

At the age of 80, the Buddha announced that He would soon reach Parinirvana, or the final deathless state, and abandon his earthly body. After this, the Buddha ate his last meal, which he had received as an offering from a blacksmith named Cunda.  The precise contents of the Buddha’s final meal were not clear. Some argue that the Buddha died of mesenteric infarction, a symptom of old age, rather than food poisoning. Actual date traditionally accepted as the date of the Buddha's death in Theravāda countries is 544 or 545 BCE. At His death, the Buddha is famously believed to have told His disciples to follow no leader.

Buddha taught, the Noble Eightfold Path: right thinking, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration are depicted in symbol of Buddha religion as eight spikes in a circle.

Return of Buddha as Maitreya

According to Buddhist tradition, Maitreya is a bodhisattva who will appear on Earth in the future, achieve complete enlightenment, and teach the pure dharma. According to scriptures, Maitreya will be a successor to the present Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. The prophecy of the arrival of Maitreya is found in the canonical literature of all Buddhist sects and is accepted by most Buddhists as a statement about an actual event that will take place in the distant future.

Avatar Meher Baba identified Himself as Buddha

Meher Baba said He was Buddha in one of His previous incarnations and identified Himself as Buddha while on tour to contact Masts in India.

During His visit of Benaras, Baba took the women to Sarnath on Thursday, 19 January 1939, where he spoke to them about Gautama the Buddha. Sarnath is where the Buddha first preached after He became enlightened.  Baba reminisced about His incarnation as Buddha and then remarked, "Buddha is now silent." (Lord Meher-1939-pp-1981)

In New Life year, 1949, Baba visited Sarnath temple where Lord Buddha gave His First Sermon. On the harsh, cold morning of Wednesday, 7 December 1949, Baba walked back to the underground rooms in the subterranean passages of the Sarnath ruins with His men companions, each man clad only in langotis (loincloths). Almost completely naked, every man shivered in the bitter cold. Each companion was handed a copy of the prayer to be offered. Sitting down on the steps, Baba directed each to read the prayer silently in His mind for fifteen minutes when He signaled to begin. Baba was praying with His companions to snap the Master-disciple connection.

Christ

Jesus was born circa 6 B.C. in Bethlehem. His mother, Mary, was a virgin who was betrothed to Joseph, a carpenter. Christians believe Jesus was born through Immaculate Conception. It is believed that he began His ministry at age 30 when he was baptized by John the Baptist, who upon seeing Jesus, declared him the Son of God.

Jesus took three of His disciples to a high mountain where they could pray alone. According to the Synoptic Gospels, Jesus's face began shining like the sun and his entire body glowed with a white light. Then, the prophets Elijah and Moses appeared, and Jesus talked to them. A bright cloud emerged around them, and a voice said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." This event, known as the Transfiguration, is a pivotal moment in Christian theology. It supports the identity of Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God.

As Jesus continued preaching about the kingdom of God, the crowds grew larger and began to proclaim Him as the son of David and as the Messiah. The Pharisees heard of this and publicly challenged Jesus, accusing him of having the power of Satan. He defended His actions with a parable, then questioned their logic and told them such thinking denied the power of God, which only further hardened their resolve to work against him. Jesus then warned His disciples of the Pharisees’ conspiracy against Him and of His fate to suffer and be killed, only to rise from the dead on the third day.

Lord Jesus claimed to be son of God for which He was condemned. He was brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea. The priests accused Jesus of claiming to be the king of the Jews and asked that he be condemned to death. At first Pilate tried to pass Jesus off to King Herod, but he was brought back, and Pilate told the Jewish priests he could find no fault with Jesus. The priests reminded him that anyone who claimed to be a king speaks against Caesar. Pilate publicly washed his hands of responsibility, yet ordered the crucifixion in response to the demands of the crowd. The Roman soldiers whipped and beat Jesus, placed a crown of thorns on his head and then led him off to Mount Calvary.

Jesus and His 12 disciples met for the Passover meal, and he gave them His final words of faith. He also foretold of his betrayal by one of the disciples and privately let Judas know it was he. Jesus told Peter that before a rooster crowed the next morning, he would have denied knowing Jesus three times. At the end of the meal, Jesus instituted the Eucharist, which in the Christian religion, signifies the covenant between God and humans. Jesus was crucified with two thieves, one at his left and the other at his right. Above his head was the charge against him, "King of the Jews." At his feet were His mother, Mary, and Mary Magdalene. A soldier confirmed his death by sticking a spear into his side, which produced only water. He was taken down from the cross and buried in a nearby tomb.

Three days after His death, Jesus's tomb was found empty. He had risen from the dead and appeared first to Mary Magdalene and then to His mother Mary. They both informed the disciples, who were in hiding, and later, Jesus appeared to them and told them not to be afraid. During this brief time, he beseeched his disciples to go into the world and preach the gospel to all humanity. After 40 days, Jesus led his disciples to Mount Olivet, east of Jerusalem. Jesus spoke his final words to them, saying that they would receive the power of the Holy Spirit, before he was taken upward on a cloud and ascended into heaven.

Return of Christ

Biblical scriptures say that Christ will return, as stated in the Bible. Their church also teaches that "When the Savior comes again; He will come in power and glory to claim the earth as His kingdom. His Second Coming will mark the beginning of the Millennium.

The Second Coming (sometimes called the Second Advent or the Parousia) is a concept in Christianity regarding a future return of Jesus to Earth after his "first coming" and ascension to heaven about two thousand years ago.

Jesus Christ is coming back to this Earth very soon. Now, Jesus Himself made it crystal clear that we cannot know the date of His return. He stated in Matthew 24:36, "of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone." Forty days after His Resurrection, Jesus and His Apostles were gathered together on the Mount of Olives. The time had come for Jesus to leave the earth. He had completed all the work that He had to do at that time. He was to return to our Heavenly Father until the time of His Second Coming.

After He had instructed His Apostles, Jesus ascended into heaven. While the Apostles looked up into the heavens, two angels stood beside them and said, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go”

From that time until the present day, the followers of Jesus have looked forward to the Second Coming. When Jesus Christ comes again to the earth, He will do the following things:

  1. He will cleanse the earth. When Jesus comes again, He will come in power and great glory. At that time the wicked will be destroyed. All things that are corrupt will be burned, and the earth will be cleansed by fire.
  1. He will judge His people. When Jesus comes again, He will judge the nations and will divide the righteous from the wicked.
  1. He will complete the First Resurrection. Those who have obtained the privilege of coming forth in the resurrection of the just will rise from their graves. They will be caught up to meet the Savior as He comes down from heaven. The wicked, who are living at the time of the Second Coming of the Lord, will be destroyed in the flesh.
  1. He will take His rightful place as King of heaven and earth. When Jesus comes, He will establish His government on the earth. The Church will become part of that kingdom. He will rule all the people of the earth in peace for 1,000 years. The Lord said: “Fear not, little flock; the kingdom is yours until I come. Behold, I come quickly. Even said “Amen”.

Avatar Meher Baba identified Himself as Christ

Meher Baba declared that He was Christ and many lovers from west had vision of Christ in Meher Baba when they met Him in person.

On August 24, 1932, in Cairo, Egypt, Baba told Kaka and Chanji, "The Coptic Church contains a cave where Mary and Joseph stayed after fleeing Herod. The reason why I came to Egypt is to visit this church.” They visited the Coptic Church the next day. Baba's face was radiant with joy as he walked through the church. He said, "This is my dear old place," and explained that Jesus had come and stayed with His apostles.

Outside the church, Baba explained the church's architecture and its spiritual significance. He had them count and write down the number of pillars, domes and arches, which came out to exactly 120. Baba said, "This church is one of the four great spiritual centers of Europe. The whole structure corresponds to the Avatar's twelve disciples of the inner circle and 108 disciples of the outer circles.

Baba and mandali went to a church built on a mountain, where Baba remained seated for ten to fifteen minutes. There were pictures of Jesus and his disciples on the walls, and a large crucifix was over the altar at the front of the church. Baba explained, "It is I who is on the crucifix, and for this reason, I did not remove my hat when entering the church. They visited St. Mark's Square. Baba said, "I was here as Jesus Christ with two of my apostles one month before my crucifixion, and sat on the exact spot where St. Mark's was later built." As Christ, I told Peter to give his other cheek to be slapped. (June, 1939, LA p276-277)

On April 20, 1933, Baba took them to Harvan village in Kashmir in two buses and a car. Dressed in disguise so as not to be recognized by the villagers, Baba showed them where he stayed in seclusion and fasted in 1929. Pointing to a hill, Baba said, “There is the place where bodies of two Christ’s apostles, Bartholomew and Thaddeus were buried. When Jesus was crucified, He did not die on the cross but entered in the state of Nirvikalp Samadhi. On third day He again became conscious and travelled south of India with 2 of His apostles. This was Jesus Resurrection. Later he travelled to Rangoon and stayed there for some time. He returned to India and visited places pilgrimages Rameshwaram, Benaras, Sarnath etc. and finally settled in Harvan village in Kashmir. When He passed away His body was buried in a cave in Harvan.

In Gospels Christ had said to His apostles, "You will deny me." This did happen when Peter, the chief apostle, denied Jesus. At the time of Jesus, I uttered many warnings, yet none could grasp in advance the necessity of my crucifixion. (8 September 1957, Meherazad, GM p-291)

I suffered so when I was Jesus, hanging on the cross, that I even felt for a moment as if God had forsaken me, and I uttered that line, 'My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?' (24 May 1958, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, HM, p-310)

Interpretation:

One may note that all predictions about Kalki, Mattreyi and second Christ following points are common which also prevailed before advent of Avatar Meher Baba

  • The decent of all three advents will be from sky and He will be riding on white horse with sword in His hand.
  • Approximate time of His coming is anticipated as 1957 or beginning of millennium.
  • Righteousness and morality will come down to lowest ebb and there will be great devastation before the advent.

So it can be inferred that anticipated advent of Kalki. Maitreya and Second Christ is none other than Avatar Meher Baba. Lord Krishna said in Gita that I come again and again, when righteousness burns low. Previous Avatars did not predict their next advent except as Hindus, Buddhist and Christians believe. Meher Baba did predict many events much in advance which came true. Meher Baba also predicted His next advent as Japanese Scientist when the science will be at its zenith.
