Life is like a bridge between birth and death which one has to travel willingly or unwillingly. Life is filled with happiness (sukh) and unhappiness (dukh). One desire for only happiness and dislikes unhappiness and tries to avoid it, although both are not in one’s control. In life there are only two main causes of unhappiness, one is undesirable persons and other is undesirable events which lead to worry, anger, jealousy, hatred etc. One’s whole life revolves around these like a kolhu ka bail.

God Speaks by Avatar Meher Baba reveals the secret of life as follows.

In the beyond state of God (unconsciousness state), God got a whim (lehar) to know Himself as, “Who am I” and universe was created as the consciousness started evolving from the lowest form in stone to the highest form in human being (where consciousness is fully developed). Now onward from human state, the process of involution begins and passes through seven planes via gross, subtle (four) and mental (two) and finally achieves God consciousness in seventh plane. Aim of life is to know our Real Self (God-hood) and goal of life is to become one with God (God-realised). All dukh and sukh are very essential for exhausting sanskaras of the good bad karmas to reach the goal of God-realization.

Now the question comes how to remain always happy and keep away unhappiness in the life? The very simple answer to this question is either you accept (desire) both (dukh and sukh) or reject (don’t desire) both dukh and sukh. This is because of fact that both sukh and dukh are the two sides of the same coin, where you cannot select one and reject the other. If you select the one, other is bound to come automatically. So the best solution is don’t desire for sukh and don’t dislike the dukh and accepts both as God’s will and be happy in His will. Spiritual truth is that God is everything and the doer of everything. All happens according to His will. Even a leaf cannot quiver without His will. So all dukh and sukh are predetermined and whatever happens is only for one’s good. Therefore, the option of accepting both sukh and dukh as God’s will is the better option than rejecting sukh and dukh which is suitable for only sanyasis,  whereas the first option is suitable for the grihasthas. Another solution of dukh is to pray God sincerely with heart for help to get rid of it, because it is God’s will and only God can change His will, not we.

One should try to follow the following wishes of Baba for a happy life

  1. Do not shirk your responsibilities.
  2. Attend faithfully to your worldly duties, but keep always at the back of your mind that all this is Baba's.
  3. When you feel happy, think: “Baba wants me to be happy.” When you suffer, think: “Baba wants me to suffer.”
  4. Be resigned to every situation and think honestly and sincerely: "Baba has placed me in this situation."
  5. With the understanding that Baba is in everyone, try to help and serve others.
